People & Food

As i mentioned in the previous post that for this session that we will discuss about people and food in Indonesian, because without knowing this one impossible we can start conversation with other people, either in manners of etiquette or with other person who is younger or older than us. 

People 
Talking about this one it has a lot of meaning that is supposed to some signification.

For example: 
People, Society, Colony, Rate, Clan, Part, Ethnic Group, Folk, Populace, Nation, Humanity, Humankind, Kind and many others.
It is also called People.

But, For this session we will talk about People in generally.
People - Orang-orang (more than one or plural), some people said peoples 'orang-orang'
Person - Orang (singular)
A person - Seseorang (look!, se-seorang)

The example of sentences:
A large number of people attended the concert (Banyak orang menghadiri konser itu)
(banyak orang or sejumlah besar orang)
A - sebuah  
Large - besar (it means besar or big) // small (kecil)
A large - sejumlah or we can say it more than one (many or banyak)
A few - sedikit
Some - beberapa

How many people did you interview? (Berapa banyak orang yang telah kamu wawancarai?)
How - Bagaimana 
How many - Berapa banyak
How much - Berapa banyak 
Did - telah 
Telah (already finished or you did something)
You - Kamu (we have talked about this one in our first post)
Interview - Wawancara 

About People;
We are going to start from the oldest to the youngest. OKAY!
Ancestor - Nenek Moyang (we say Nenek moyang for Ancestor or Forefather)
Grandfather - Kakek
Grandmother - Nenek
Father - Ayah /Bapak 
              (My Dad is my hero), Ayahku adalah Pahlawanku
              (My book - Bukuku), (Myself -Diriku)
Mother - Ibu /Mama
Uncle - Paman 
Aunt - Tante (hmm just remember the francais of Aunt)..similar to bahasa TANTE

Younger /Elder brother - Adik /Kakak Laki-laki 
              (younger - lebih mudah)
              (Laki-laki, Man)
              (Men, Para lelaki or para laki-laki) plural
We often say that a brother is seorang abang 

Younger /Elder sister -  Adik /Kakak Perempuan
              (older brother - Abang /kakak lebih tua)
              (sister is kakak)
              (Girl /woman /women - Gadis /Wanita /Para wanita)
A sister is seorang kakak
Sibling - saudara

But, in daily conversation we do not talk too difficult or to complicated). Generally, we say if she is a girl (enough to say wanita or perempuan)

Girl /Gadis. Usually, refers to under 18 years old or someone who is not married yet
             Female /woman /feminine, Wanita
             Women - Para wanita 
Cousin - Sepupu 
for female and male just use Perempuan and Laki-Laki

Child - Anak
Children- Anak-anak
Kids - Anak-Anak 
A Girl - Anak Perempuan
A boy - Anak Laki-laki
Baby/infant/babe - Bayi 
Nephew - keponakan laki - laki
Niece - keponakan perempuan
Parents - orangtua

Family (Keluarga)
My family (keluargaku) more formally Keluargaku 
My families (Keluarga-keluargaku or Keluarga-Keluarga Saya or Keluarga-Keluarga aku)
             
Anyway, no like another languages especially European, female and female make it differents also for singular and plural) stroke and stress.. full of magical haha

Breakfast - sarapan pagi /makan pagi
Lunch - makan siang
Dinner - makan malam

Basically, the staple food of Indonesia is rice.
Rice - nasi
Fish - ikan
Vegetable - sayur

Fish - ikan
Salted fish - ikan asin
Hilsa fish - ikan hilsa
Snapper - ikan kakap
Mackerel - ikan kembung
Pompano - ikan kuwe
Tuna - ikan tongkol
Sardine - ikan sardin
Pomfret fish - ikan bawal 
Tilapia - ikan mujair /nila
Groper - ikan kerapu 

There are many types of fish, but above i wrote down which is usually consumed

Vegetables - sayuran
The fruit vegetables - sayuran buah
Big chili - cabai besar
Cayenne - cabai rawit
Pea/kapri - kacang kapri
Winged - kecipir
Tomato - tomat
Bean - buncis
Long beans - kacang panjang
Cucumber - mentimun
Eggplant - terong
and many others

The vegetable leave - sayuran daun
Kale - kangkung
Spinach - bayam
Leek - daun bawang
Basil - kemangi
Celery - seledri
Cabbage - kubis
Lettuce - salada

The vegetable flowers - sayuran bunga
Cole/cabbage - kol
Broccoli - brokoli

The vegetable bulbs - sayuran umbi
Carrot - wortel
Potato - kentang
Red onion - bawang merah
White onion - bawang putih

Ginger - jahe
Galingele /kencur - kencur
Turmeric - kunyit
Galangal - lengkuas
Lemongrass - serai
Bay leaf - daun salam
and others

Meat - Daging
Sandwich - sandwich
Soup - sup
Strawberry - stroberi
Water - air
Onion - bawang
Pan - roti
Wine - anggur
Milk - susu
Beer - bir
Coffee - kopi
Tea - teh
Meal - makanan
Salt - garam
Sugar - gula
